East Harling 1-2 Poringland Wanderers
The first team entertained 6th placed Poringland on Saturday looking to keep the pressure on those above but would have to beat the visitors for the first time this season on the 3rd attempt.
Team news saw a handful of changes as Webb, Senior and Tarft cane back into the starting line up in place of Ramsbotham, Bareham and the injured Bray.
The hosts made a quick start and were denied a clear penalty when Senior was pushed in the box but the referee somehow judged it to be outside the area and gave a free kick which was taken by Tarft and narrowly missed at the back post.
Moments later good work from Webb forced the keeper into an acrobatic save before Laws fired over from close range.
Scent then saw a volley brush the woodwork and Allin thumped over the crossbar from distance before the visitors took the lead against the run of play. The hosts went on the attack and Tarft smashed the ball superbly across the six yard box but saw a brilliant clearance fall into the path of the visiting left winger near the half way line who turned and run the entire half at pace before squaring to his striker to turn the ball in from close range.
The lead was nearly doubled in a mirror image of the first goal but Woodcock denied the visitors with a brave block.
The second half started much the same with Webb cutting in and just missing the target from a tight angle.
Cross after cross flew into the away sides box but the visitors were standing strong and defending for the lives until Tarft received a pin point Barnett pass to lay in Webb who passed the ball high into the net from 10 yards.
The home side looked to add another but from a yard skipper Durrant somehow headed wide under pressure.
It was to be the last of the action for Durrant who suffered a nasty head injury and had to be replaced by Bareham. Thankfully Durrant was given the all clear at the hospital and received six stitches so is on the mend.
Bareham nearly made a huge impact as a Webb header was blocked but the substitute shot straight at the stranded keeper from 4 yards in a busy goal mouth scramble.
Dolan then sliced wide before being replaced by Saint.
Ramsbotham then came on in place of Barnett as the hosts went searching for a win.
Webb then charged down the line and crossed to Ramsbotham but the ball was just to high as another chance went begging for the home side.
Webb then had to be replaced by Barnett as the clock ticked down.
They went even closer when Scent thumped a 25 yarder off the underside of the bar before bouncing to Saint but the keeper recovered well to block on his line.
The visitors then rattled the bar via a Woodcock fingertip from a rare attack but moments later the hosts were to face a killer blow.
A 30 yard free kick awarded in the 97th minute flew into the top corner and hand all 3 points to the away side in a true smash and grab style raid.
We now move onto yet another huge encounter next Saturday when we host 3rd placed Holt United in an early kick off.
