East Harling 1-3 UEA …

East Harling 1-3 UEA
The first team entertained the 4th placed university side looking to start the year with in positive fashion.
They made a very quick start when Morris was denied by a fingertip save from the visiting keeper.
Senior was then back to his best and quick link play with Olpin and Skipp saw the winger in on goal but his cross-come shot ended high and wide from close range.
The visiting keeper was then called back into action as he somehow palmed a Conroy strike round the post much to the strikers disbelief.
Moments later the away side had the lead completely against the run of play.
A corner from Conroy found the head of Durrant which was blocked and UEA broke at speed.
They found themselves in a 2v2 situation and when the ball was squared to the lively number 9, he showed fancy footwork to beat Laws and roll an accurate strike into the bottom corner past the outstretched hand of Goodwin for 0-1.
The home side were not down for long however, a good ball from Skipp saw Johnson tussle with a defender before being tackled but Senior seized on the loose ball to play in Conroy who slotted home from close range.
Just when it looked like the home side would get back on the front foot, the away side scored two goals within 2 minutes to all but kill the game off.
Both goals could have been avoided but a mixture of sloppy defending as a team and some superb attacking play meant the home side had a mountain to climb in the second half.
The second half was a completely different game with the home side defending so much better but not looking threatful in attack whilst the away side were more than happy to keep the scoreline as it was.
The game became very scrappy and only a good stop from Goodwin in a goalmouth scramble which also saw Bareham clear off the line was the only attack of the game.
There was a welcome return to action for Nathan Rose as a second half substitute and a first team debut for Jack Simpson whilst Paul Suggitt made his first appearance for the side in over 18 months.
The team have to dust themselves off and get ready to take on top of the league Martham next weekend in what has now become a must win game.
Malcolm J Blades Sports Photography were also back in action and pictures and videos will be posted very soon.
Great to see you again Malcolm…..
