East Harling 5-3 Caister Reserves
The first team entertained the 3rd placed coastal side on a bright day at Church Road.
Following two defeats in the previous two games, Lawrence made a number of changes to the squad.
Burgess and Verrell were handed their first team debuts, there was recalls for Bareham, Johnson, Dunkinson and Conroy whilst Charlie Hutt was given his first start.
The home side made a quick start and Tarft went close with a volley but failed to get make enough contact before Rose then had a powerful strike well blocked and Tarft fired a free kick harmlessly over.
The visitors gained confidence from this and began to take the game to the hosts. They were ahead after 20 minutes when a long ball caused confusion in the home sides defence and the sharp striker nipped in between Bareham and Hutt to superbly lob the stranded Woodcock.
Moments later the away side nearly doubled their lead when the striker found space in the box but was thwarted by a stunning save from Woodcock to keep the greens in the game.
40 mins gone and the home side were denied a blatant penalty when Rose drove a strike goal wards but was denied by an outstretched arm of a defender but the referee waved down the appeals to everyone’s surprise.
There was still time for one more chance in the half when Senior danced round 3 players to find the run of Johnson but he was denied by some great goalkeeping to keep the score 0-1 at the 45 minute mark.
The second half was a different story as the home side started to take the game to the visitors from the moment the whistle was blown.
They were soon level when a driving run from Senior ended with the ball deflecting into the path of Tarft who smashed home an unstoppable half volley to draw the home side level.
The joy was short lived though as somehow the number 10 scored with a speculative effort from all of 35 yards to stun a resurgent greens.
Changes were then made with the first one being Conroy to replace Johnson and Dunkinson on in the place of Verrell.
It didn’t take the hosts long to draw level again as determined work by Rose to latch onto a clever quick throw from Allin then beating his man down by the corner flag and delivering a deep ball to the back post where Senior tucked away his 1st goal of the season.
They were then ahead minutes later as Barnett prodded home in a crowded penalty area after the ball had struck a post from a Tarft free kick.
Sivier then replaced Hutt in the defence with the debutant struggling to shake off a foot injury suffered in the first half.
Blatant penalty appeals waved away yet again as Tarft was cleaned out in the box as he was about to fire at goal just 10 yards out.
Rose then fired a volley just wide and Conroy went close with a powerful effort from 20 yards as the home side began to over run the tiring visitors.
Dunkinson then unfortunately suffered another ankle injury and had to be replaced by Verrell.
The 4th goal came 6 minutes from time as Rose chased onto a clever ball to and slid in to nick the ball away from the hesitant keeper and roll the ball into the empty net.
Rose was then replaced by Johnson.
Somehow Caister then caught the home side sleeping with seconds remaining which was surely the last kick of the game…..
Wasn’t to be as back came the home side to put the game finally to bed as Johnson out wrestled the defender to prod home his second goal of the season.
A huge result for the greens which puts them top of the league going into another tough game at a notorious bogey ground for the greens when they travel to Beach Road, Wells Town to take on the strong seasiders.
