The reserves had a break from league action as they entertained Poringland in the CS Morley cup at church road. Unlike the wet and miserable weather it was Harling who started the game brightly and were dominating possession through the hard working middle 3 of Cusack,Denniss and Verrell. Harling were creating many chances but just lacked that bit of luck to break the deadlock. The game was then brought to a halt due to thunder and lightning, this worked to our advantage as from the restart Harling again started strong and within 5 minutes it was Verrell who broke the deadlock with a fine strike from 10 yards. Confidence was high as Harling turned over possession through Cusack ,who then showed his strength and skill to shrug off the opposition and spread a lovely ball wide to Stoney, who took on the defender and drilled it to the strong centre forward Conroy who held it up superbly, he then played a perfect ball for the onrushing Cusack to smash home from 12yards, half time 2-0. Harling started second half slowly and were soon punished when a hopeful long ball by a Poringland defender wasn’t dealt with properly and the striker shin rolled the ball in the corner of the net giving Freeman no chance, 2-1. This kicked us back into gear and despite the tricky conditions Harling were playing some lovely slick football, and it was Verrell who doubled his tally when he got on the end of a pin point cross by Hobley, 3-1. Poringland were committing everyone forward to get back in the game, but it was Harling who broke quickly from a Poringland corner, Hobley and Reed found themselves 2 on 1 with the keeper and it was to be Hobley to roll the ball into an empty net and complete the scoring. Final score 4-1. Brilliant performance from all the whole squad in terrible wet and blustery conditions.
